irs.com(tm) is part of the DotCom family Tax Search

Search the comprehensive index of irs.com's tax-related links by typing words or phrases in the search box.  Search automatically sorts the results so the most relevant Web pages are listed first.

Search results may include sponsored listings, which offer direct access to products and services relevant to your search term.  Merchants and service providers bid to be included in this list when a searcher enters specific terms.  Editors check that these specific terms match the products and services that the sponsor offers.

How Search Works

When you enter a phrase and press search, the search engine looks for relevant matches between your search phrase and similar words in our database.  TaxSearch uses a 'noun emphasis' matching technique to match your phrase.  That is, it looks at the last word(s) in your phrase as the most important, and searches for relevant matches based upon this 'noun'.

Given the 'noun emphasis' of TaxSearch, it is best to limit your phrase to just a few words.  Requests such as 'tax forms' and 'tax help' are perfectly okay and will return links with exact matches to this phrase.  However, 'I am looking for help with tax forms' will probably not yield results as good 'tax forms'.

The resulting matches are weighted by how closely they match the phrase entered, which ensures that exact matches come to the top followed by matches found closer to the end of the search phrase with special emphasis placed on the last word of the phrase.

The example below illustrates the ordering of a typical search. The search phrase was "irs tax forms".
